Excerpt from Waking Up Werewolf:

The vampire held out a hand. “I’m Sid. Nice to meet you Warren. I need you to help clear my ex-lover of a murder charge.” He held up the text message, which basically said, ‘I’ve been framed for what happened in the alley.’

Warren frowned. “That was quick.”

“News travels fast in the underground.” The vampire led him down a sinuous hallway, explaining the situation as he did so. “See, Avery, my ex, fell in with some people he shouldn’t have. I suspected they’d come seeking revenge. Now they have.”

Suddenly, he pinned Warren against the wall. The heat from his body penetrated Warren’s skin. He was a handsome man, this strange vampire. His face had that old world patrician look about it. His attitude was confident and smooth. Warren found, gazing into this vampire’s eyes, he could easily be seduced by this man. A mixture of danger and promise wafted off of Sid.

“You saw the murderer. You smelled him, didn’t you?” His soft lips brushed over Warren’s.

“Yes…” Warren stammered. “Yes, I did. He smelled like rotten vegetables.”

The vampire nodded, and when he did his lips skimmed up and down Warren’s, but he denied a full kiss. “Could you identify him if you saw him again? The others with him, too?”

Warren tried to breath normally, and he felt the wolf in him stir. That wasn’t the only thing stirring. His penis twitched in his pants. “I would know him if I saw him again, I think. The others? I’m not so sure.”

“That’ll be good enough.” The vampire reached down between them and stroked Warren’s cock through his pants. He gasped as his shaft began to stiffen. “Tell me, Warren, why have you never been with a man? I know you’ve wanted to.”

“I…It just never happened.” Warren wasn’t so sure he was cool with his every thought being read, but this vampire was turning him on. The adrenaline from a breakneck, chaos-filled day mingled with the chemistry he could feel building between him and this man. The vampire flit a velvety tongue over his bottom lip, cupped his ass with two strong hands to pull him close, and Warren let himself melt into a primal kiss.

Bonus Excerpts

 Excerpt from Bad Boy Alphas:

“Whoever did this didn’t plan on leaving any clues.” With gloved fingers, Peter examined the severed hand he and Xavier found in a import container at Port Metro.

“If it wasn’t for that anonymous tip, we wouldn’t have found it.” Xavier bent down beside him and sniffed the air, pungent with the scent of the Pacific Ocean. “They got sloppy, leaving this hand behind. Maybe they were in a rush. Afraid they were going to get caught.”

Peter nodded to his long time partner, in life and on the force. “Night shift dock worker could’ve stumbled onto the killer before they finished up.”

“Would explain our anonymous tip.”

“That’s what I’m thinking.” Peter called over the crime scene technician and asked her to store the hand in a brown paper evidence bag. He and Xavier combed the scene for more evidence.

“Our killer isn’t human.” Xavier scented the air again. “We know that much.”

Their perp was definitely supernatural. Peter and Xavier knew that much from the pattern of gnaw marks on the hand and the smell that lingered at the crime scene. The bite looked like it belonged to a ghoul, but that theory didn’t sit right with Peter. Though ghouls made short work of dead flesh, leaving little behind after they finished their meal, ghouls didn’t like to dine on freshly dead flesh. They never killed their prey either. Ghouls were scavengers who preferred long dead tissue. The riper the better. That was why they made their homes in abandoned mausoleums and underneath cemeteries. Easy access to their rotten meat treats.

Supernaturals had a distinct smell, just like humans. But unlike humans, supernatural homicide detectives like Peter and Xavier didn’t need dogs to sniff out their perp. Being werewolves meant both of them had a heightened sense of smell, taste, and sight. Enough of the perp’s pheromones lingered for Peter to tell they were supernatural, but not enough to get an accurate lock on what kind of supernatural they were looking for. Alarm pheromones, he and Xavier noted. That meant they were right about their killer nearly getting caught in the act.

Excerpt from Claimed by the Bad Boy:

Bekka carefully unwrapped the package that sat atop her glass display case. It was an H.P. Lovecraft original, and being a lifelong fan of horror she couldn’t help but smile wide as she gazed down upon the book. Damn, she thought, It’s nice to enjoy what you do for a living.

Bekka had rented the space for her rare used books/oddities/antiques store around two years ago, right after her divorce from Corey was finalized. The memory of their uncomfortable parting made her sigh as she ran a reverent hand over the book’s cover.

She thought back to their final day together, remembered Corey and Juanita begging her to reconsider leaving. But Bekka had learned one lesson living with her husband and his stepmother for two years: There was only room for one woman in a man’s life, at least, when it came to living under one roof.

After enduring two and a half years with the meddlesome but well meaning woman, Bekka had to admit defeat. It wasn’t that Juanita had meant to gobble up every spare moment of Corey’s time, or that she meant to horn in on their relationship. It just happened. And Bekka, powerless to stop it but desperately wishing she could, had to do some soul searching before she dropped the dreaded “D” word on Corey.

It had practically killed him. She would never forget the look of hollow sorrow in his eyes that day.

“Why the hell am I doing this to myself?” she muttered to a china Buddha smiling cheerily at her from where it sat in a tall, glass display case.

Glancing at the calendar by the door, Bekka came around front to flip the CLOSED sign to OPEN.

She looked down at the dusty motorcycle boots on the other side of the glass, wood-framed entrance. Her eyes followed them up to black jeans, and she swallowed as her fingers closed over the sign.

Two years. Bekka never thought she’d see him again, even though they lived only forty-five minutes apart.

But there he was, standing on the other side of the door, smiling in at her, wearing a black t-shirt and sunglasses. It gave him that enigmatic, slightly dangerous look she’d always loved about him.

Corey Varkov. Her ex-husband. Bekka stared and her hand trembled on the sign.

Corey pointed to the doorknob, smiled—showing his deep dimples—and raised his eyebrows.

Nodding her head, Bekka forced a smile through her shock, fumbled with the key in her hand, and let him in.

“What…” Her voice cracked and her throat dried. “What are you doing here?” She cursed her words for deserting her at the worst possible moment.

Bonus Excerpts

Excerpt: His world slowly came back into focus as the woman wrapped his shoulder. Bright green eyes stood out in her plain, pretty face. She helped him sit forward so she could put a sling on his arm.

She smiled and gently eased him back against his pillows. “Do you remember what happened?”

The doctor, a round, short guy with silvery blond hair and wire rimmed glasses, sat on the side of the bed. He shone a light in his eyes as Haden answered, “Our raid got ambushed. We were going to shut down the Nighthawks meth lab, but they knew we were coming. Condemned Sons came in to back them up.”

The woman nodded and seemed pleased by his clear memory of events.

“Look left,” the doctor told him. “Look right.” Haden’s eyes watered from the piercing light and his head ached like a rotten tooth. “Look up. Down. Good. Now cover your left eye.” The doctor help up an open paperback. “Can you read the words on this page?”

Haden rattled off some sentences and the doctor appeared satisfied. He asked him to repeat the process with the other eye. The doctor nodded and clicked off his light, slipping it in his blazer pocket. He held up a pen and asked Haden to follow it with his gaze, then did a few other tests. Haden’s eyes throbbed in their sockets by the time he finished.

“Do you feel pressure in your head? Any dizziness?”

By now, Haden grew tired of the examination. “My head hurts like hell. Don’t feel too dizzy, though.”

The woman asked Haden if he remembered his full name and birth date and he rattled these off, “Haden Samuel Probst. I was born May 17, 1993.”

The doctor looked dubious. “If the headache continues, or there’s any persistent dizziness or vomiting, call me. You’re damn lucky, Haden. I’ll be back in a couple days to check on you. Make sure he keeps that shoulder immobilized, Tessa. Don’t let him sleep too much.”

“Sure thing, Doc.” She pulled up a wooden chair beside him. “I’ll keep you company for a while.”

Haden couldn’t even manage a nod. His whole body felt like one massive aching wound. At least he could move his eyes without too much misery. So he scanned the room.

The bed had a simple pine frame, and most of the furniture was white pine. The walls were also made of pine logs, stained a medium brown.

Near the doorway, the doctor stood talking to a biker who towered over him. The guy wore a vest with a back patch that marked him as a member of Rebels & Rogues. This biker was so tall he’d have to duck to get through the door. Tattoos snaked over his heavily muscled arms, and his square jaw was peppered with dark stubble. His hair was short and dark brown, but strands fell over his piercing, ocean blue eyes. He had a prominent nose, which he looked down when he glared in Haden’s direction. The guy would’ve been hot if he wasn’t raging with anger.

“Thanks for fixing him up, Doc,” the big man said, shaking the hand of the smaller blond gent.

“No problem. I owed Tessa and Bear a favor. There’s a bottle of Tylenol 3s on the night table. Don’t let him take too much.”

The two men left the bedroom together, and Haden focused on Tessa once more. “Where am I?”

“You’re at Tag’s place.” At his confused look, she added, “He brought you here with Mickey J after Lucifer’s Chosen and Rebels & Rogues took out the lab.”

“How’d we do?” Haden was afraid to ask, but he had to know.

“Lucifer’s Chosen lost three members. Nighthawks lost a lot more after Rebels & Rogues showed up.”

He had conflicting emotions over that, but he stayed blank faced in front of Tessa. He was glad Lucifer’s Chosen and Rebels & Rogues took on minimal damage, glad they destroyed the Nighthawks’ lab, but the lives lost, including the one he’d taken, haunted him.

“Keep him awake.” The gravelly voiced guy stalked up to the bed.

Tessa gave a small grin. “Haden, this is Tag.”

“Kid, you’re lucky,” the big man growled and glared. “Mickey J should’ve iced your ass for this.”

Writer's Guest Room: Keep Your Enemy Closer by Jessica Frost

Our dear pal Jessica Frost stops by today with a sneak peek at her latest release, Keep Your Enemy Closer: Sexy Men of Mystery Book 6. Check out this story filled with man love and intrigue!

Keep Your Enemy Closer
Sexy Men of Mystery Book 6
Jessica Frost

About: Detective Greg Volenti has led a boring, lonely life up until now. All he’s ever cared about was his job, and catching the bad guys. After getting a lead in the murder he’s investigating, he gets into his car to head to the precinct. But someone’s in there waiting for him and knocks him out. He awakens later in the middle of the forest. No one’s around for miles, except a sexy, unconscious man lying near him. Who is this gorgeous man and what are they doing here together?

Micah Lawson wakes up when a handsome stranger shakes him. Frightened, at first he thinks this man’s the kidnapper who brought him here. But they soon realize they’re both the victims in this sick game.

They must put aside their doubts and fears and trust one another to survive. It proves easier said than done. Micah has an evil secret he’s keeping at all costs. As their sexual attraction and feelings of love blossom, so does the danger lurking in the forest. They aren’t alone. Someone’s listening, watching, and waiting for the perfect time to attack. Can they escape before whoever’s stalking them makes their move?

Excerpt: The icy coldness numbing his body was what awoke Detective Greg Volenti from unconsciousness. His head ached. The trees and their fallen leaves that surrounded him spun like a merry-go-round before his eyes.

“Where am I?” he asked when he lifted his head.

Vertigo reeled him over as he turned to the side and vomited. Bile and what remained of his chicken salad sandwich he’d eaten for lunch spewed from his throat, burning the lining of his esophagus in the process. Sharp, stabbing pains in his abdomen kept him hurling even though he’d emptied his stomach’s contents ten seconds ago. Ah man, that hurt!

He closed his eyes and waited until the spasms subsided and then sat up. His head continued to throb. He touched the back of it and felt a large bump. He didn’t remember hitting it. But from the size of the lump, it was a pretty strong blow.

After a few seconds, he realized his hands stung, as well. He pulled up his jacket’s sleeves slightly and saw scrapes and bruises across the front and side of his lower arms and hands.

He moaned, releasing the breath he’d held for some time. Taking in his environment, he found himself in an unknown wooded area. Panic struck him across the face like a locomotive. How did he get here? The last thing he remembered was getting into his car to head back to the precinct. A rag had suddenly appeared in his peripheral vision and before he could react, his assailant smothered him with whatever it was soaked in, most probably chloroform. Everything went black seconds later. And now he woke up here. How much time had elapsed?

He slowly stood and began to walk around. Other than the disturbed leaves in the area where he’d laid just seconds ago, there was no other sign he’d been dragged or carried to this place. It was as if he just appeared on the ground out of thin air. The possibility wasn’t probable, other than in works of fiction. Someone had obviously dragged or carried him here and then covered their tracks so he wouldn’t be able to figure out where they came from and in which direction he could escape.

Why? Who would have wanted to do this to him? What could they possibly gain from all this?

He had enemies. Yeah. Hell, he had many. Being a detective in the Newark Police Department, that came with the territory. Could this all be related to the homicide case he was working on now? Where three college students were kidnapped from their dorm rooms and found days later mutilated and hanging from tree stumps in various areas around the city? His detective senses said, yes, they were related.

What he didn’t understand was what they would gain by doing this. Was this some sort of game to distract him and the police department so the serial killer or killers could plot more kidnappings and killings? Or was this a warning that if he continued to investigate this case, then bad things would continue to happen to him?

Whatever the reason, all Greg knew was that he was steaming mad. He kicked the oak tree’s trunk in front of him as he continued to walk around the perimeter.

Nothing, no sign that anyone other than himself had been in the vicinity recently. Yeah, these bastards were smart. Damn smart. They knew how to clean the area of any telltale signs to help Greg solve the mystery of who they were and where they’d gone to.

He leaned on the tree and stared into the sky. The beaming early October sun brought some heat to his cold body, but not much. With only his light fall jacket as insulation, he’d freeze soon enough if he didn’t keep moving. Taking a deep breath, he pushed himself off the tree’s trunk and forged ahead.

He had been walking around for ten minutes and wondering how long it would take the guys at the precinct to realize he was missing and put out an APB, when he thought he heard moaning coming from up ahead.

He slipped his hand to where his holster usually sat on his hip before remembering he wasn’t wearing his gun. Other than the clothes on his back, he had no wallet, no cell phone, nothing on him, except his watch.

He thought he saw movement to his left. Hiding behind the tree beside him, he peeked in that direction. From what he could see, something was moving close to the ground. Getting in a crouched position, he moved closer, using trees and bushes as visual obstructions so whoever or whatever was moving wouldn’t notice his approach from the side.

More mumbles floated through the air. It didn’t take him long to realize someone was lying on the ground. He ran to the person. To his surprise he saw an extremely handsome, muscular, dark-haired male lying on the grass in the cover of two small trees. His arms rested by his side unmoving, but his head and legs thrashed from side to side. The man’s eyes fluttered open and closed as if he was fighting to gain consciousness. Greg knelt down beside him and touched his arm. A spark of electricity channeled through his fingers through their contact. An odd sensation of giddiness overcame him and his heart skipped several beats as he admired the unconscious stranger’s face and sinewy body. He touched the man’s cheek and felt like swooning. Why? Why was he reacting like this?

Could he have been drugged? Given some sort of aphrodisiac mixture that had his body acting in this way? He shook his head and tried to rein in his body’s reaction and focus on the dire situation at hand, which was who the hell this person was and what they were both doing here.

The man’s bewitching hazel eyes suddenly sprang wide open. The look of utter fear masked his expression. He jolted up into a sitting position and pushed away from Greg with his feet kicking. He glared up at him. “Who are you? Why did you bring me here?”

Excerpt from Surrender To His Demands:

We arrive at the Hermes Theater at 8 pm and take our seats in the orchestra area. The theater has been recently restored, and cherubs blowing horns adorn the ceiling. The beige walls are trimmed with gold, and deep burgundy curtains drape the black stage. Balcony seats draped in similar deep red jut out from either side of the stage, looming high above it.

The lights go down and Laura grabs my hand, gives it a squeeze and gives me a wide smile. I return it, but I’m not expecting much. Maybe it’s just my bad mood lingering from the crappy news Isaac’s note delivered. Truth is, I’ve never been big on magicians. Sure I’m seen Damien Lane and Rick Seraphim, the two big ones out there these days, and their tricks are impressive. But I can be a hardcore cynic and I’m not easily impressed. From what I’ve heard about Niko, he’s a magician past his time and on his way out. If it weren’t for his family’s connections, he’d probably be forgotten by now.

A disco ball spins above the stage after the curtains part. The lights dim and ominous music plays to get us in the mood. I glance around, finding the place is packed. So maybe Niko isn’t as washed up as I think, or maybe his family pays people off to come see the shows.

Stop being a jerk, I scold myself. After all, the ticket was a gift from Laura and I shouldn’t be so ungrateful. So I focus forward and try to enjoy the show.

After some flash and pageantry during the opening, Niko gets to the tricks. He does a couple with cards to warm up and get the show rolling, then does a few impressive sleight of hand illusions. Next his assistant, a pretty brunette dressed in a sparkling blue mini, wheels out a box and places it at the center of the stage.

Niko is an intimidating and strikingly handsome man. I’ve only seen his photos on a few occasions, when the local papers have covered his shows. He’s tall and barrel-chested and walks straight and proud as he performs. He wears a trimmed, black beard that accentuates his pale skin and icy blue eyes. Now he turns to the audience in his tuxedo and begins to open panels on the box that sits atop a table.

“You will note there are no tricks, no secret compartments.” His voice booms out as he speaks to the crowd. He raps the top of the box with a massive fist. “Once the lovely Jemma is inside, she has no way of getting out. No hidden escapes.”

Another man also clad in a tuxedo brings out a buzz saw as Jemma, Niko’s assistant, climbs inside the apparatus.

“Now, ladies and gentleman,” he says, sweeping his arms wide. “I will saw Jemma into three pieces right before your eyes.”

I can’t help rolling my eyes. This trick is as old as god, if I believed in one. Thankfully Laura doesn’t notice my disdain.

But, somehow, Niko does. Those icy blue eyes focus on me and he calls out, “Excuse me, sir. Do you doubt my claim?”

The spotlight pins me and my eyes go wide. I hate being singled out, and my anger gets the best of me. “Not saying you can’t do it. I just think the trick is a little dated.”

Niko arches an eyebrow. “Perhaps you’d be more impressed if you came up here and watched?”
