Jess massaged my shoulder. “You’re too hard on yourself, ya know?” She smiled. “You don’t have to be so tough all the time. You’re not Joan Jett.” She added a giggle at this.

I nearly choked on my ganja smoke laughing back. “I’m a drummer, silly. Not a guitarist, or singer. You wouldn’t want to hear me sing. Trust me.”

“Oh, shut up.” She playfully slapped my arm. “I’ve heard you sing backup harmony for Jeff when he was with Loaded Revolver. You sounded good.”

“You’re just being nice.” I leaned over and lightly brushed her lips with a kiss. “You’re always too sweet to me.”

Jess stroked my cheek. “Because you beat yourself up all the time. So, someone has to lift you up.”

I groaned and giggled at that. “Oh, you sounded like an 80s love song then.”

She gave me a little kiss back, then said, “You know it’s true.”

It was warm for December, but then Kellville resided in a temperate climate. Something I was thankful for. We rarely got snow. Most winters were full of rain. This year, though, it looked to be a sunny, green Christmas—not a wet one.

I was enjoying the balmy weather, practicing on my drum kit in the basement, when it hit me. Today’s day. One year ago, my mother was killed when a drunk driver t-boned her old Volkswagen Bug. She left me and my step dad behind, and I missed her terribly. I’d been doing great until I glanced at the calendar. A week before Christmas. Then grief delivered a sucker punch to my gut. I called my best friend Jess to see if she wanted to get out for a ride and smoke up. I needed to be outside. The house felt suffocating without Jeff around.

“Like I said, you’re just too nice to me.”

Jess shook her head and rolled her eyes at me. “You’re stubborn, also.”

I grinned. The ganja warmed my head, relaxed my body, mellowed my thoughts. It also made me unbearably horny, and it was starting to have that effect.

“Thank you,” I whispered, and I brought my forehead to hers, stared into her eyes. “I’m so grateful for you, Jess.”

“I’m grateful for you.” She rubbed my shoulder, then her fingers drifted to my breast. She squeezed my medium-sized handful then played with the nipple.

From K& R Book Blog:  5 out 5 stars - What an amazing box set. I am amazed at the different authors creativity. There were some really hot moments in these stories. I think my favorite is Her Bad Boy Protector. I love the way Anita Lawless writes. She brings the story to life and her characters are real and enjoyable to read about. This whole box set was great. A little warning there are some male on male stories and some male female male, as well as female and female. All and all the stories were enjoyable and the different authors worked really well to create this exceptional box set.

Excerpt: Lost, I drifted amidst a sea of masked elite clad in tuxedoes and evening gowns. The stage I stood on held five women and five men. As another marched up to the front to be auctioned off, I wanted to shrink into my too-tiny burgundy corset, dusted with sparkling rubies. It probably cost more than I made in a year. My wispy thong also left little to the imagination. 

The auctioneer—a handsome older man with silver hair—turned to me and nodded. 

I shivered and stumbled backward, away from his outstretched hand. 

This was madness! With frantic eyes, I scanned the crowd for Ami and Josh, but they were nowhere in sight. During the pre-party that opened this event, we got separated. A beautiful blonde, wearing a mask plumed with peacock feathers, led them into a room and shut the crimson door behind them. I was ushered in here, led up on the stage, and left helpless.

The auctioneer curled his fingers. He smiled kindly. I shook my head and scurried farther away, smacking right into the chest of a scantily clad man. He cupped my elbow and bent to whisper in my ear, “Don’t worry, baby. No one will hurt you—well, unless you want them to.” His dark chuckle renewed my trembling.

The auctioneer looked displeased. He cleared his throat and crossed his arms over his crisp, white shirt. 

Time froze and my heart seemed to stop. Crossing my arms over my heaving breasts, I wished the stage would open up and swallow me whole. These people—the richest of rich in the city—would know I wasn’t one of their kind. They’d tear me apart like a hungry predator. I had to go on with this charade in order to survive. 

I put one stiletto heel in front of the other and concentrated on how the sequins dusting the tips sparkled. Anything to distract me from my present situation. 

The auctioneer took my hand and led me up onto a raised block.

 Excerpt from Claimed by the Bad Boy:
She watched his finger, and then her steely stare locked on his ice-blue eyes. “Why would you care whether I had changed or not?” Her voice was low, and Corey thought he heard a hopeful, anxious lilt to it. Perhaps wishful thinking on his part but, at this point, he’d take any scrap as a sign. He wanted her back so badly it hurt right in his gut just to look at her.

“Do you remember what I told you when you left me?” Corey moved his face closer to Bekka’s. Their lips were now inches apart. “Just before you walked out the door?”

He heard her swallow and her breathing had grown shallow. “What…”

Taking her into his arms before she could resist, Corey nipped at the shell of her ear, flicking his tongue inside before he whispered, “What I promised you?”

Bekka cleared her throat, but her voice was still thick when she spoke. “That you’d come find me one day. That you’d get me to come back to you, no matter what—”

He stole the last of her words with a deep, hungry kiss.

Bekka shoved him back and Corey looked at her with a puzzled frown.

“Wait a second.” Bekka glanced at the clock. “Isn’t it a bit early to be closing up a tattoo shop, Corey? Are you sure you didn’t set this up on purpose?”

His mouth still hovered close to hers and, while staring at her lips, it was hard to comprehend her words through his fog of desire. Corey shook his head. “What?” He followed her gaze to the clock. “Ohh…that.” He turned back to her, pinning her once more with those intense, blue eyes of his. “The shop isn’t technically open yet. Me and Jamie are in the process of getting things set up. We’ll be opening on Friday.” He yanked her back into his arms and Bekka let out a surprised yelp. “And quit trying to change the subject.”

Bekka let herself dissolve into his kiss. Damn, it did feel good to be back in his arms. She hadn’t had a lot of men before Corey. She was skittish when it came to males, after suffering years of mental and physical abuse at the hands of her father as a teen. Still, she was no innocent when it came to pleasing and pleasure. Corey, much more experienced in sexual matters than she was when they first met, had taught her a lot in their three years together. They’d been best friend with incredible chemistry—a rare combination. And that chemistry only blazed hotter now that they had been apart for so long. At least it did on Bekka’s part, but she tried to hold her excitement back some. It was all she could do not to tear his clothes off as she helped him out of them.

Excerpt from Her Bad Boy Protector:

She went to hide behind the locked door. Next time he entered, she’d clobber him. If she were lucky enough to knock him out, she could grab the keys to his vehicle and get the hell out of here.

Callie didn’t have to wait long. Footsteps approached the room, keys jangled, and the knob rattled. Her heart jumped into her throat and her hands tightened around the base of the lamp. When the door swung wide, she leapt out and struck hard muscle.

Dishes clattered to the floor. A sandwich splatted on the hardwood, sending a tomato slice sailing across the planks. A glass of milk shattered.

So much for lunch, she thought, then she swooped the lamp forward again. This time an unyielding fist closed around it and yanked it from her hand. Its metallic body tinged and glass smashed as it also met the floor.

She was screwed.

Steely arms clamped around her in a vice-like grip.

“I knew I shouldn’t have untied you.” His hot breath fanned her face. Their lips were inches apart.

Once more, her body betrayed her with tingling nipples and a slow fire down below. In a split second, she processed her options. Taking the offensive route hadn’t worked. Maybe it was time for a different game plan.

She’d read that appealing to your captor’s humanity could work in these situations. If you formed a bond, it made it harder for them to hurt you. Maybe seduction should be her plan of action. Desperate situations called for desperate measures, she decided.

Callie cupped his bristly cheeks and quickly kissed him.

His reaction was instant and primitive. He spun her around and pinned her against a wall. The kiss he returned left her weak in the knees and clinging to him. Her mind whirled with contradictory reactions as he tasted her, as his hands splayed over her ass and yanked her closer. She could feel his hardness pressing into her abdomen and it made her throb.

She moaned into his mouth and her traitorous hands slid up his back. Muscle rippled beneath her palms as he ravished her.

Fingers slipped beneath her sweater and scorched her as they trailed up her torso. Her nipples ached to be touched, and when he unclasped her bra and freed her breasts, she pushed them into his hard chest. Her groan was a wordless plea to be touched.

Excerpt: “See you two are getting real friendly,” Lucien snapped from behind them. “Great.”

Roane whirled around, but he kept Kylie tight against him, almost in a protective gesture. It warmed her heart, but she didn’t need saving from this surly grease monkey. She could handle him fine, and a part of her enjoyed taunting him.

She didn’t bother to zip up her jeans as she slid from Roane’s arms and strutted up to Lucien. “Maybe it’s because your friend knows how to please a woman.”

“You saying I don’t?”

A menacing, cruel sneer spread over Lucien’s face. He pressed his firm chest into Kylie’s shoulder. She pressed back. Much like with his friend, a spark of desire flickered through her. Only with Lucien it burned hot, raw, and dangerous. 

“You’d have to prove it to me.” She stood on her tiptoes. Kylie’s lips, still wet from Roane’s kiss, hovered inches from his.

His hot breath fanned her face. Electricity crackled where their bodies touched. 

Lucien cupped her face with one massive paw. “Baby doll, you aren’t ready for that.”

Then with a tap of cane and thud of his boots, he walked away.

“You’re a coward,” she called after him. “Hiding under all that bravado.”

He turned around and glared at her. His expression became that of a hungry wolf about to charge his prey. 

Kylie wouldn’t be daunted. She met his fierce indigo blue glower with one of her own. She crossed her arms beneath her boobs, accentuating her generous cleavage, and waited for his retaliation.

In a flash of blond hair and long legs, he stalked across the show room floor and took her in his arms. Despite the limp and the need of a cane, she learned just how swift this surly Viking could move.
